Oz Worldbuilding - Character Concept!

For the character design assignment that we touched on in class, I've created a character named Sheamus!

"Do you happen to have any books on greenery?"

This would be something Sheamus would say if he was caught in a situation where he has to speak. Otherwise, he silently sits with his arms folded and acts intimidating.

The character's main trait is that they appear to be very very menacing, threatening, un-loyal, a bit like a hirable guard to sort of bully people around due to his intimidating size and demeanor. In truth, he's very soft and kind, and is actually very loyal to a cause that he feels is justifiable and honorable.

His 'third' trait is that he's very very impulsive, which can put him into undesirable situations and can often make him act on the wrong feeling when it's unnecessary.

As for a physical description, Sheamus is very large, and barrel shaped. His clothing is relatively well kept, but has a few cuts and scratches that show that he's actually been in a few physical situations that involve him fighting.

When Sheamus isn't busy being a hired guard or meat-shield, he likes to garden and simply take care of small plants. He also owns a small collection of plush animals.

One important article of clothing that he wears is a large helm that covers most of his face in a shroud. Not only does this make him intimidating, but also hides him from people when he's not feeling up to socializing.

Sheamus' house is something modest; Just a little farm-house that is surrounded by lots of lush plants and vegetables, due to his diet and hobby of gardening. The house has been around a very long time, and has lots of moss and ivy crawling around it, but he doesn't mind. To contrast his large size, a lot of his household items are very small.

Sheamus steps out of his house and stares eastward; he sees the big, intimidating forest that he lives near, and feels inspired. He knows that the forest is full of many dangers, but also knows its gentle secrets such as the small animals that inhabit it, or the fragile plants that grow under the bulky trees. He feels inspired to continue his garden and nurturing these small, hidden things that other people are too afraid to search for.

South of where Sheamus is, there's a small clearing of some of the massive trees, where a lovely patch of berries happens to grow. With the seasons changing, whatever is available in this patch changes. He cuts down the plants once they wither and die, and lets whatever naturally wants to pop up there appear, which he'll harvest later! Those are the only wild plants that he harvests, since most of everything else is just in his garden.

Towards the West, Sheamus simply sees the large village where he normally goes to either buy seeds for his garden, or to do his usual work of standing around and looking intimidating, or getting into a scrap because someone wanted to mess with something they shouldn't have. Looking towards the West makes Sheamus upset, because he doesn't truly want to spend his life looking intimidating, but it's the only thing he thinks he has right now because of how he looks, and is afraid of branching out from that. Sheamus is good at growing everything but himself.

Towards the North, Sheamus sees a big open field, full of opportunity and space for him to do what he really wants, which is to just farm and keep small things around him to care about! He wants to act on this dream, but is being held back by his fear of being unsuccessful because of how he appears to be.

Oz Worldbuilding Folks & Map!

The Poppy People of Northern Munchkin Country

In the northern corners of Munchkin Country, lives the Poppy People. It's an isolated collection of flower people that enjoy their isolation from the rest of the land of Oz. The wicked witch of the West would not go near the Poppy People, due to their potent abilities of putting people who get too close to sleep, similar to the deadly poppy fields that rest outside of the boundaries of the forest and emerald city.

The small village of poppy people is relatively worn down, with rustic buildings that resemble pieces of forest detritus that one can usually find when on a walk. One of the most prominent buildings is an old, overgrown skull of a Munchkin that fell prey to the poppy people years ago. Despite the fact that they are only the size of your average poppy flower, the poppy people are incredibly vicious fighters.

Some of the more notable poppy people in the village are the leaders, with an elderly poppy flower that's wilted down and hunched, but she's wiser than all the other poppies, and so she rules them and guides them. She also parlays with the Queen of Mice, to make sure no unnecessary bloodshed happens between their people.

The other leaders of the poppy people are their war champions, which are thicker poppy people who have small spines for defence. They know how to fight, so usually they don't do any sort of speaking with the delegates from other kingdoms.

Due to their ruby hue, people have always rumored that Glinda, Witch of the South, was the one that somehow blessed or created them. Here's their location on a small map, plus the munchkin skull house!
